National Reconciliation Week
This week marks National Reconciliation Week across Australia, a time to reflect on and acknowledge the tens of thousands of years of culture, knowledge, care for Country and deep connection to land held by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
At Geelong City Market we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we gather, work and share food, the Wadawurrung People of the Kulin Nation, the First Nations people of the Geelong region. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise that this land always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Reconciliation Week is also a time to acknowledge the painful impacts of colonisation, dispossession and the injustices faced by First Nations communities throughout Australia’s history, many of which continue to be felt today. It is a moment for listening, learning and ensuring that truth telling, respect and action remain part of the future we build together.
As a community-focused market built around connection, culture and local stories, we believe food has the power to bring people together. Through shared meals, conversations, music, art and storytelling, we hope to create a space where everyone feels welcome, valued and seen.
We are proud to support and celebrate First Nations voices, businesses, growers, artists and communities, not just during Reconciliation Week, but as an ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive and connected future for all Australians.

More than a Market
11am Masterclass with Special Guest Conor Curran aka
Creamy confusion
Kohlrabi and sweet potato rosti
We are lucky enough to have the brilliant Conor aka creamy confusion at the Nisbets Kitchen this weekend! If you don’t know who this legend is, head over to his social media page and say hello. True meaning of an amazing food creator.
So this week we get to have him down to cook up an amazing, simple, delicious rosti, but not from your normal potato - we are going different - kohlrabi and sweet potato all from our very own pindatoe’s produce stall. Fresh, and flavourful.
Be some to come on down at 11am and get some samples and learn how easy it is to make this dish.
At the Nisbets Kitchen
On the Forte Buskers Stage
